Aug 23rd........Last weekend was Downers Grove, the saturday race was fast and a great warmup for Sunday, so speaking about sunday, 4 major crashes throughout the race, I was able to avoid all four, 2 of them slowed me down for a bit and I had to do mjaor chasing. Saturday was Snake Alley, damm this was tuff, basicly super fast crit course with monster snake like climb and brick pavement, and it hurt, every lap hurt more than the one before, I finished 32, not bad considering there was a pileup on first lap that totally broke up the groups. It was hard but I am glad I did it. May 14th...yesterday was the State Championship MTB race, yes even though I have not been on a MTB since the 12 hour race in September, I decided to do this race. 4 laps for a total of 28 miles, it felt like 100 miles on the road. I got a bad start, my brain was thinking like a roadie and I quickly realized you cannot sit on the back in a MTB race.
The last lap I totally bonked, but I finished, of course out of the money. Then on to a baptisim for my niece, Vivian Karpen..........May 111th........I would say we are totally moved in to the new apartment now, plus last tuesday we had tacos at the bar after the race for everyone that showerd up........May 3rd.... fun races last nite, in the final laps, Mark Nagy and Peder Hulse and I had perfect postion, mark set me up for the sprint, I think I went just a tad early and I was beaten at the line by james pirtle.so 2nd pplace for me.............May 1st......Old man is doing well, thanks everyone for the good wishes and prayers. last weekend was the tour of st louis, and my head was definately not into racing, on saturday i lasted about 20 minutes, brutally windy and pollen was terrible, my eyes were so full of junk I couldn't see. I partied hard that night and did not plan on racing on sunday. My mom called and insisted I race, thats right my mom insisted, so I drug myself out of bed and went to the race.
super fast and then it started raining and lightning cut the race short, I actually finished 9th and I was glad I raced, thanks mom..........April 29th........wild week, last week pops had a stroke, so basicly he has been in hospital all week doing tests etc. He is home now and has all his motor skills etc, lost some eyesight, but of course he is already plotting strategy as to when he can rie again.......April 19th...early break last nite, which lasted entire race, wore me out, Mark nagy and peder were in the peleton workin the group etc.......iT FELT GOOD........ I do need some kind of excuse........March 13th.......more riding on sunday, did the columbia flats with some hills added, very windy...then on to my sisters for birthday dinner for Laura.......March 11th.......I have returned, and yes already worked one day at the shark. This morning I did the shark ride and I must have brought home the tucson weather......
March 8th......snowboarded all day, dam I am tired, just a couple of days ago it was 100 degrees in Mexico and now I am playing in the snow in Vail, life is good...........March 7th.........on my way to Vail, Co to visit with old high school buddy for a couple of days and then on my way back to St Louis. I might be racing this weekend in Indiana......March 3rd............this is a translation from the Old Man, since Johnny is not at a computer, I talked to Johnny today to get the lowdown on the race in Mexico, I will skip some of the wording that was used, the race started off on a bad note, first of all the starting location was changed last minute from Tucson to Nogales, then they did not know if theya were doin a crit or road race, then the race start time was delayed 3 hours, please note the word delayed, we were ready to race but they were not, than after lining up then they had to go to another location for the start. The next day was more confusion.......... Imagine what racers in st louis would do to a promoter if he had theses problems. more of the same in stage 2 and 3.
In stage 3 they did not tell us the proper race distance or inform us that the last 30 miles was straight up. more confusion, no water or food left me with what I call the shakes.more info later...........February 26........Monday I will be removing my stuff from the apartment in Tucson and storing it in the van untilI return on March 5th from Mexico. Karl should be here tonight. ...Do not forget wednesday is my birthday, send money please..February 15th..........this is the Life, bike, eat, sleep, bike ,eat, sleep, warm weather, suntans, hotbabes, this would be a good time to thank all of those that have helped me out along the way........I called home and talked to pops to remind him to drive my motorcycle or at least start it up, keep the parts from rusting.......February 13th....yesterday we raced in Phoenix, considering that I do not have enough miles on my legs yet, I was happy with the results. I made the mistake of thinking it was final lap and it was not, so I was toasted, ended up with pack finish, Peder Hulse did great especially considering he has not been riding...February 11th.......it has been a difficult week from the viewpoint of nursing my knee injury, sometimes it feels better, sometimes it does not. Peder Hulse has arrived and we did Mt Lemmon today.......It looks like I will be racing in Mexico at the end of the month, hopefully my knee will heal up by then. For those of you reading this from St Louis, it was sunny and 75 degrees today......February 7th.............I just got the phone call, my older sister Dedra, just had her baby, its a girl, Vivian Karpen, this is number five for Dedra.
Talk about a trooper she has her kids at home, yes that is right, the all natural way, no pain killer etc. just pure guts....So when I am hurting making that climb up Mt lemmon, I think of her. congratulations....

I spent the day Icing it.today I rode for about an hour and my knee felt better......February 3rd....well I did 40 miles yesterday and 50 today, my knee hurts, I think it is from the crash, because my hip hurts also. so I am using plenty of ice. I am going to try the shootout ride tommorrow and see how I feel, Sunday josh and todd are going to Phoenix for road race, I am definately not ready for that yet. The sunshine here is awesome..the hot girls here are awesome....February 1st........Okay lets chalk this one up to stupidity, I rode with Josh, Todd and Mike, of course they are all tan and have many miles under the belt, we start out averaging 2o mph, damm, by time we hit the 40 mile mark I am already toast, so I turn around and head back, I am only a few blocks from the apartment and of course in front of the University with hot babes everywhere, and yes, I am so tired, that I lose my concentration, I get caught in the trolley tracks, I go down for the whole world to see, scraped butt, knees, elbows, you get the picture. Tonight I am cleaning the wounds, but of course I am also sunburned........Welcome to Tucson......ooops I almost forgot, this is for the Old man who has been telling me for 2 months that I need more base miles so my knee will not hurt, well Old man you were right....Jan 31st.......arrived in Tucson this afternoon around 5 pm, only one minor traffic high speed warning on the way in OK. the apartment is much nicer than last year, under new management, I plan on riding 7 hours with Josh Carter, and some others tommorrow. sweet......Jan 30th.. I will be leaving for Tucson in 2 days, I am taking Team Van, because my old Volvo, well lets just say it is old....We will have rotating groups of racers coming in and out throughout the month, so if you need a place to stay, email the old man at team@dogfish1.com.......January 20th...I am finally starting to feel better...I hate winter and it hasn't even been that cold. I have been able to get on on my motorcycle many times, in the last month......Jan 18... All I can think about is going to Tucson, I need to get back on that bike and also enjoy the Arizona weather. I am still sick and I recently obtained some antibiotics to kick this thing. January 5th, I have been sicker than a dog, this sucks.
Big Shark has agreed to be our team sponsor.........I decided not to go to Florida with the Old man for the Surf Expo, It would have been fun, you know the show routine, hot babes etc, but I need to stay home and work and conserve cash for Tucson.........January 2006, Happy New Year,
Great party at the Tower Pub last nite. Huge crowd, old buddies etc.
I guess I should start training soon.
